Aston Martin premiers new Vanquish grand tourer

MANILA: Aston Martin launched the new Vanquish, which according to the British carmaker is a grand tourer that will “redefine driving dynamism for a new generation of drivers.” 

Per the storied marque, the model is equipped with a bespoke 5.2-liter, V12, twin-turbo engine developed by Aston Martin. The house-built powerplant — mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission — can put out some 823 horsepower with as much as 1,000 Newton-meters of torque. 

Speed peaks at 345 kilometers per hour. 

“It was inconceivable that a new Aston Martin flagship should be powered by anything other than a state-of-the-art V-12. To this end our engineering team completely reworked our existing 5.2-liter Twin-Turbo engine from block casting to cylinder heads. With ambitious targets for gains in power and torque, plus equally tough goals for improvements in driveability, efficiency and global emissions compliance, the result is a modern masterpiece. One which delivers performance characteristics unmatched by any other car in its category. As such Vanquish makes an emphatic statement, with its abundant power and prestige surpassed only by the passion and skill poured into its creation,” Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Roberto Fedeli noted. 

At the fore, the latest iteration of the Aston Martin Vanquish boasts a sculpted bonnet with thermos louvers said to have been inspired by Formula 1 cars. In addition, it gets an all-new front bumper, fender and grille design. 

The fascia is adorned with Matrix LED headlights with integrated daytime running lamps. 

On its flanks are flush door handles, frameless door mirrors, and a set of 21-inch forged alloy wheels shod in bespoke Pirelli P Zero tires. 

The rear end of the new Aston Martin Vanquish is fitted with broad and powerful haunches complemented by a Kamm Tail with an integrated deck lid spoiler. On each of the tail’s sides are all-new LED light blades, also found on the Valkyrie. 

Rounding up the exterior appointments of the new grand tourer is a full-width diffuser with quad tailpipes — which according to the Gaydon-based carmaker — emits a fabulous V-12 howl. 

Inside, the new Aston Martin Vanquish can accommodate two occupants and is fitted as standard with the Sports Plus Seats with customers having the option to get the lighter Performance Seats. 

Facing the driver is a leather-wrapped, multi-functional steering wheel with a flat bottom. Past it is a 10.25-inch thin-film transistor driver display complemented by the similarly-sized (10.25 inches) Pure Black infotainment display with wireless Apple Carplay. 

Aston Martin said that the new Vanquish is the fourth model from the carmaker to feature its next-generation infotainment unit, which is an entirely bespoke system and developed in-house from scratch. 

Sound played from the aforementioned infotainment unit is sent to a Bowers & Wilkins 15-speaker, double amplified surround sound system that delivers the most enthralling sound experience.

We captured the immensity of its performance and the imperiousness of its intended purpose while tempering the drama of Vanquish with a rare and unmistakable sense of elegance. Our team demonstrated bravery and curiosity in their quest to deliver unexpected design ideas throughout. The teardrop exterior features an all-new surface language and amplified front-engine proportions, and the interior environment combines the focus of a true driver’s car with elevated luxury and state-of-the-art technology,” Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman said. 

“There is great passion in creating pure excitement, and this new Vanquish is a culmination of fearless creativity and human ingenuity. We have combined next level, ultra-luxury performance with British-cool sports car styling to deliver a crowning Aston Martin V12 flagship for the ages,” he added. 

The new Aston Martin Vanquish made its debut amidst the backdrop of the Venice International Film Festival. It was revealed by Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team drivers Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. 

“The arrival of Vanquish is a seminal moment for Aston Martin, completing the newest and strongest portfolio in our segment and reinforcing our ultra-luxury positioning. This launch toasts the renaissance of our iconic brand and the unique combination of timeless design, craft mastery and engineering innovation which defines our new generation of sportscars. Our flagship product, Vanquish embodies our commitment to both ultra-luxury and high performance, bringing Aston Martin to a new generation of drivers,” Aston Martin Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll stated. 

Relatedly, the Aston Martin Vanquish used to promote the 20th James Bond film Die Another Day — starring the fifth actor to play the British spy, Pierce Brosnan — will be sold at an auction next month at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. 

In addition to being linked in the James Bond franchise, the said automobile was the first car to drive down the M6 Toll road to commemorate its opening.

The new Aston Martin Vanquish is limited to only 1,000 samples.
