Aston Martin presents Valhalla supercar, makes 1,064 hp

MANILA: Aston Martin has presented its first series production mid-engine hybrid supercar dubbed Valhalla.

Per the United Kingdom-headquartered carmaker, the Aston Martin Valhalla “is a car of ‘firsts’,” which packs a bespoke 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 engine with hybrid technology mated to the marque’s new dual-clutch transmission system, which incorporates an electric motor and electronic rear differential.

In unison, the setup can dish out some 1,064 horsepower (hp) with 1,100 Newton-meters of torque.

“Four years ago we set out on a journey to transform the Aston Martin brand by taking its historic and unmatched luxury credentials and adding cutting-edge F1-inspired technology and class-leading performance, with the aim of taking on the most successful brands in the world,” Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hallmark stated.

“With the next generation of sportscars launched to critical acclaim, we are now adding the first ever mid-engine series production Aston Martin to our portfolio, the ultimate driver’s supercar. On paper and on-track Valhalla delivers the most driver-focused, technologically advanced supercar, with true hypercar performance, and yet on the road, it is as useable and enjoyable as any Aston Martin. A unique proposition, designed to be the most elegant and exciting product in the market,” he added.

“We learned to think differently from developing the ultimate hypercar, Aston Martin Valkyrie, and working with Adrian Newey. This knowledge and new methodology have allowed us to build on the strengths of our past successes and position Aston Martin as a class-leading company in technology, performance, and experience for our customers who will be the custodians of this new piece of Aston Martin history, Valhalla,” the Aston Martin boss concluded.

Hybrid power

As mentioned earlier, the Aston Martin Valhalla uses a 4.0-liter powerplant that contributes around 816 horses. On the other hand, the three electric motors (two of which are positioned on the front wheel axle) add some 212 hp to generate above 1,000 hybrid horsepower that propels the supercar from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 2.5 seconds.

The Aston Martin Valhalla has a top speed of 350 kph, which is electronically limited by its system.

Since the supercar uses a hybrid powertrain, it will be capable of driving in pure electric mode. Emissions-free driving in electric vehicle mode is possible for 14 kilometers with speed that peaks at 140 kph.

Handling deceleration and quick halts carbon ceramic brakes that measure 410 millimeters (mm) at the front and 390 mm at the rear. Gripping the front discs are six pistons while the rear uses four pistons for braking.

According to the Gaydon-based company, the brakes are specifically engineered for the Aston Martin Valhalla and incorporate Brembo’s carbon ceramic technology.

These brakes play a role not only in giving the supercar ample stopping power but also in getting some level of electric power back through regenerative braking technology to harness kinetic energy.

Limited production

According to Aston Martin, the Valhalla will commence production next year. Only 999 samples of the supercar will be made.
