Aston Martin unveils AMR22 Formula 1 contender

MANILA: The Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team has revealed its 2022 Formula 1 car, the AMR22. 

Aston Martin said that its AMR22 is the latest addition to the "proud racing bloodline," as it celebrates the centenary of its maiden Grand Prix at the 1922 French Grand Prix.

The 2022 F1 car was symbolically revealed on Aston Martin’s sports car assembly line at Gaydon. 

The AMR22 sports new aerodynamic features — redesigned front and rear wings, wheel covers, and under chassis, among others — that interpret F1's new regulations. 

In the new regulations, F1 cars are designed to cut through the air better, allowing the cars to race closer against one another without  losing their aerodynamic advantage. 

Similar to the 2021 version, the AMR22 will be powered by a Mercedes-AMG sourced 1.6-liter, turbocharged V6 engine that is paired to an electric motor. Under the new rules, F1 engines will use more sustainable fuel. 

Lance Stroll and four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel will race the AMR22. 

The AMR22 is finished in 2022 Aston Martin Racing Green livery, the auto marque's signature racing color, and the team’s new campaign "We Climb Together."

The campaign aims to inspire the team and its millions of fans with the story of Aston Martin’s origins, with founder Lionel Martin and his wife Kate taking part in the Aston Hill Climb.

The AMR22 was unveiled next to the Aston Martin's sports SUV the DBX707, and the Valkyrie AMR Pro hypercar and the mid-engine plug-in hybrid supercar the Valhalla.
