Aston Martin unveils life-size Corgi DB5 toy ahead of 'No Time to Die' premiere
MANILA: Aston Martin has officially launched the No Time to Die campaign along with an exclusive screening of its No Time to Die TV spot at the Battersea Power Station in London.
No Time to Die, the 25th James Bond film, will be released globally starting this month. The movie features four iconic Aston Martin models: the DB5, the classic Aston Martin V8, the DBS, and the exceptional Aston Martin Valhalla.
To celebrate James Bond’s highly anticipated return to cinema, Aston Martin and Corgi have also unveiled a life-size replica of the 1965 Corgi DB5. The full-size model is displayed at The Coaling Jetty, outside Battersea Power Station. It measures 5.66 m long, 2.7 m tall, and 2.7 m deep, replicating the original Corgi design and contains an Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation car. The DB5 is equipped with working gadgets that were made popular by the classic James Bond film: rotating number plates, a retractable bulletproof rear shield, extending front over-riders, and pop-out machine guns.
Only 25 units of the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars are being produced, more than 25 years after the last new DB5 was unveiled at Aston Martin’s global manufacturing hub in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. All new cars are authentic reproductions of the DB5 in one exterior color, Silver Birch, with some approving modifications to guarantee top quality and dependability.
James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, which was first unveiled in 1965, became the most famous Corgi release of all time. It was hailed as the “Toy of the Year” and “Best Boys Toy” at the National Association of Toy Retailers Awards in the same year of its release. The model has proven its popularity over the years as it has sold over 20 million units worldwide.
The grand unveil of the life-size Corgi DB5 toy car was led by Aston Martin Lagonda Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman. He was joined by special effects coordinator Chris Corbould, who is responsible for some of the most iconic James Bond action scenes from the past 14 films. Corbould was also involved in the development of the eight DB5 stunt replicas that were created for the movie and the working gadgets on the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars.
In a statement, Reichman said, “We are really honored to be marking the start of the No Time to Die campaign today with this exciting unveil. Aston Martin’s relationship with James Bond spans decades and the DB5 is, without question, the most famous car in the world by virtue of its 50-plus year association. Working with EON Productions and Chris Corbould to build 25 of the DB5 Goldfinger Continuations was a truly unique project for everyone involved at Aston Martin. Now, to work with Corgi — another quintessential British brand — and to see James Bond’s most cherished car sitting inside a to-scale toy box in central London is quite outstanding.”
In parallel, Corbould stated, “Having worked closely with Aston Martin over the years to bring to life some of the most ambitious Bond scenes, and most recently on No Time to Die I can genuinely say it is a privilege to be here today to help unveil this incredible display for such an iconic car that truly holds a special place in Bond history.”
The life-size Corgi DB5 will be displayed at Battersea Power Station until October 1.
