Okamoto replaces Suzuki as Toyota PH president
MANILA: At an event that transpired at Grand Hyatt Manila, Toyota Motors Philippines introduced one and all to their new president, Atsuhiro Okamoto. Before taking the reins from Satoru Suzuki, Okamoto served as the executive vice president of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific. Thanks to the previous designation, the new TMP president comes well-versed in the ASEAN and Philippine automobile industry as well as the customer mindset and trends of the region.
"As TMP’s new president, I would like to reiterate to all TMP Team Members, dealers and suppliers alike, the importance of dedicating our work to contribute to society. We will continuously do so by providing ever-better cars and services to enhance the quality of life of Filipinos," said Okamoto while addressing the personnel at the event. Following his education from Keio University, Okamoto has been working with Toyota Motor Corporation since 1992, and the new TMP president has taken care of the Toyota and Lexus brands for over 28 years that he has been with the company.
At the event, Okamoto also showed appreciation for Suzuki's tenure, when TMP grabbed a 39.5% market share in the country and also secured the Triple Crown for 18 times in a row. Also, it was Suzuki's tenure when we saw the arrival of the Altis Hybrid, global unveiling of the Hiace van in the Philippines, and opening of as many as 23 new dealerships across the Pearl of the Orient. In his speech at the event, Suzuki stated, "You are the reason for Toyota’s passion to be always better", and displayed gratitude to the loyal Toyota customers.
Also, present at the event was TMP chairman Alfred Ty, who went on to appreciate the continuous support of all the stakeholders over the last 30 years. "Because of your unwavering support and friendship, we have been able to remain true to our promise of service to the Filipino and the Philippine nation", said Ty. Moving ahead, Ty also emphasized on Toyota's commitment towards nation building via local automotive manufacturing and other ways. Ty also mentioned the company's investments concerning the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy or CARS programme by the Philippine government. The CARS programme has already generated Php 5.42 billion, which will help a great deal in generating employment, skill development, and the transfer of technology.
With a new chief in charge now, we only hope that Toyota Motor Philippines will only get better. Here's wishing Atsuhiro Okamoto a great tenure ahead in the Philippines.
