Audi RS Q8 is the new high-performance version of mid-size SUV Q8

MANILA: Only months after introducing the SQ8, Audi Sport is at it again, unleashed the high-performance version of 2020 Audi RS Q8 last Wednesday at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The RS Q8 is a full-pledge RS version of Audi’s flagship of the Q range of SUV. This performance-minded mid-size SUV ‘coupe’ is the fastest and most powerful model of the Q and the third RS SUV to be debuted this year, after the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback. It shares the same platform with the Lamborghini Urus but a tad tone down.

Under the hood is a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine with a mild-hybrid system that can produce a combined power of 592 hp and 800 Nm of peak torque. It can go from zero to 200 kmph in just 13.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 304 kmph. The 48-volt mild-hybrid technology uses a lithium-ion battery that improves the use of the stop-start system,

boosts the car’s efficiency when decelerating, and powers the optional electromechanical active roll stabilization (EAWS) system that reduces body roll when making sharp turns for a more comfortable ride. The same tech is used on other SUVs like Mercedes-Benz’s GLE- and GLS-Class SUVs, Bentley Bentayga, and Continental GT.

Besides performance, the RS Q8 is made a bit wider (10mm) and lower (5 mm) than the production version of the Q8. It rides on 22-inch 10-spoke aluminum wheels wrapped in 295/40 tires, the largest tires ever fitted as standard on a production Audi. A 23-inch set of five-spoke rotor design rims in various colors are also available exclusively for the RS model if the 22-inch isn’t big enough to your liking.

Aluminum and carbon fiber styling packs enhance the exterior appearance while the large air intakes upfront, and the pair of oval exhaust tips complete the aggressive look. At the rear is a spoiler for increased stability when driving at high speeds. A high-gloss black exterior detail makes the RS stand out from the rest of the Q8 range.

Inside the cabin, the RS Q8 is set up with two black leather sports seats embossed with RS logo in the front and a three-seat bench at the rear, a new flat-bottom steering wheel, Audi's Virtual Cockpit, and MMI dual-touchscreen setup are just some of the noteworthy features.

The new Audi RS Q8 will go on sale in Europe and the US sometime in 2020. Although no prices have been announced, we’re guessing it will be well below the $200,000 asking price for a Urus.
