Auto China 2024: Chery unveils Tiggo 9 PHEV

BEIJING: Chery has unveiled its latest new-energy offering — the Tiggo 9 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) — at the ongoing 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

The Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV is equipped with a 1.5-liter high-performance engine with hybrid technology mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It can deliver as much as 234 horsepower with 385 Newton-meters of torque.

According to the mother company  of  Omoda, Jaecoo, and Jetour, the Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV offers a fuel-efficient drive with a minimum fuel consumption of 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers (km) based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycles standards.

It has a combined range of 1,400 km.

Outside, the Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV wears an eye-catching octagonal grille complemented by dynamic body lines and 20-inch multi-spoke wheels. The cabin packs modern amenities like a 15.6-inch 2.5K high-definition screen and an integrated multi-functional console. Specially crafted three-dimensional stitched seats also welcome the driver and passengers.

“The Tiggo 9 PHEV is yet another outstanding creation from Chery in new energy fields. It not only elevates design aesthetics but, crucially, addresses key concerns like range and efficiency for users. This model sets a new standard for PHEV models, thanks to its advanced power technology and precise understanding of user needs,” Chery wrote in a press release, quoting an industry expert who spoke during the event.

According to Chery, sales of the Tiggo 9 PHEV will commence in the fourth quarter of 2024. The Wuhu-headquartered auto firm hopes to lead the luxury sport utility vehicle segment with the forthcoming arrival of the vehicle in various markets.
