Automotive Sales Reach New Heights With Toyota Philippines Leading the Way
MANILA: Despite the constant news of poor vehicle sales and dwindling automotive market in the neighboring Indonesia, the Philippines has certainly been a profitable affair for automotive manufacturers. This can be clearly seen in the monthly sales report published by CAMPI (Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc.) for the month of May that shows record sales over 10,000 units, bringing the tally to 134,488 units for this quarter ending in June. The figure includes the sales for both passenger and commercial vehicles and has been co-confirmed by the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) in the Philippines. This is surely a great news for the automotive manufacturers in the country as the industry showed a major increase as compared to the figures last year. This is also an interesting feat as 2016 is the 4th consecutive time the country’s automotive sales have surpassed the record sales of the first quarter.
This certainly is an interesting turn of events as just last month, the online automotive portal Carmudi also predicted the country’s vehicle sales to exceed their targets this year. Hence it is certainly clear that the future of cars and automobiles in our country is indeed a bright one. The leader of the gang is without a doubt Toyota Philippines, that has shown a major growth with a market share of 42.95 %. The overall sales for Passenger cars also rose to 14% as compared to last year’s figures, where 9,556 units were sold. The second in line is Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corp. who have performed brilliantly despite of several allegations related to the fuel economy figures in their vehicles. They hold a market share of 18.29% that surpasses the sales for their Japanese rivals Honda Cars Philippines, who sit on the 5th position in the list. While the 4th highest sales belonged to the commercial vehicle brand Isuzu Philippines, Ford Motor Company Philippines, Inc. surprised everyone by grabbing the 3rd spot above Honda Motors just like last month.
With almost half of the total automotive sales in the country, Toyota Philippines is sure having a gala time, in spite of being replaced from their global throne by Volkswagen. The news was made public by the President of CAMPI, Atty. Rommel Gutierrez who also discussed the possibilities of sales improving even further this month. He also stated that the tremendous sales figure is indicative of the high demand for mobility, which will pave way for new cars to be introduced in the country. Despite of the global automotive industry dealing with tonnes of scandals and mishaps, the Philippine market is surely a sign of good hope for the manufacturers.
