BMW M5 Competition is the most powerful M5 ever

MANILA: BMW M5 is a powerful sedan, for sure. However, there are many out there who feel that the 600 PS grunt is still a little laggy and inferior compared to similar cars in the category. And for those, the all-new 2018 M5 Competition sedan is the answer.

The 2018 BMW M5 Competition still uses the same 4.4-litre V8 engine with two turbochargers under the hood. However, some tweaks in the mechanism make sure that this Competition brings out 25 PS more than the standard version. However, even with 625 PS power (600 in the standard M5), the torque remains at 750 Nm.

The mechanism of wider torque distribution and extra power makes the 2018 BMW M5 Competition capable of hitting an acceleration of 0-100 kmph in just 3.3 seconds and 0-200 kmph in 10.8 seconds (quicker by 0.1 and 0.3 seconds respectively). The top speed has been limited to 250 kmph. However, people who want this top speed figure to go higher can opt for the M Driver’s Package which can push up to 305 kmph on the speedometer. You will find the same XDrive AWD (all wheel drive) system as the standard M5.

Apart from the mechanical tweaks, the German company has also made subtle changes on the exterior designing, just to make it more performance-oriented on the outside. There are many black inserts on the body which includes the exhaust pipe, boot lid spoiler, wing mirror, and front grille. It rides on chunky 20-inch wheels, the rear (285-section) being wider than the front ones (275-section).

Inside the M5 Competition, there are some unique but pleasing visuals like the M tri-colour seatbelts and the “M5 Competition” graphic on the instrument console which lights up whenever the car starts. The dashboard is chiselled with a mixture of carbon and aluminium inserts. The seats are covered with Merino Aragon leather.
