The two groups sold 36,714 units in August 2023 alone.Based on their joint report, the two groups turned over 276,215 units to their clients — a 29.8-percent increase over the 212,872 examples sold to customers during the same period last year.
In the previous month alone, the groups also delivered 36,714 vehicles to buyers, which showed a one-percent slide versus July 2023’s 37,086-unit retail performance. However, the same number reflected a 21.6-percent jump from the same month in 2022.
Leading the sales thrust for CAMPI-TMA is the commercial vehicle segment. The aforementioned category’s sales for January-August 2023 reached 205,764 (nearly three-fourths of the entire automotive year-to-date sales). The said figure is 28-percent higher than the 160,790 units garnered during the same timeline last year.
The remaining 25.51 percent of the total sales for January-August this year (70,451 units) is made up of the passenger car segment.
“The auto industry is mindful of the challenges brought by high inflation and its effect on the overall consumer confidence particularly for big-ticket items – not a welcome news to the consumers and industry alike if it will persist,” CAMPI President Rommel Gutierrez.
“Nonetheless, the 276,215 units year-to-date sales of CAMPI-TMA, up by 30 percent from the same period a year ago – equivalent to 70 percent of the 395,000 sales forecast is certainly giving optimism of a sustained and even stronger post-pandemic recovery for the auto industry”, he added.
Holding the lion’s share of the vehicle sales for the full eight month of the year is Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) with 126,795 units retailed to customers — allowing them to corner almost half of the overall retail output of the two groups (45.90 percent).
Trailing TMP is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 50,439 examples handed over to buyers and Ford Motor Philippines with 19,700 units rolled out to clients.
Taking the fourth and fifth spots are Nissan Philippines (17,873 units) and Suzuki Philippines Incorporated with 11,821 units.
