Camry-derie: 17 total variants for Toyota Camry's 37th birthday
MANILA: In line with its 37th anniversary, a total of 17 variants now comprise the lineup of the 2021 Toyota Camry.
The first-ever XSE hybrid grade merges the most fuel-efficient powertrain of Camry with its highest expression of luxury and sportiness.
To date, the 2021 Toyota Camry provides 17 various options in the mid-size sedan category. The options include the three V6 grades (TRD, XSE, and XLE), five four-cylinder AWD grades (XSE, SE Nightshade, SE, XLE, and LE), five four-cylinder FWD grades (XSE, SE Nightshade, SE, XLE, and LE), and four hybrid grades (XSE, SE, XLE, and LE).
Such a feat for 2021 follows a year when the Camry included an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option and its first-ever TRD performance model. The “L” grade has been dropped for the 2021 model, so the LE currently becomes the entry point for the model line.
The wide range of options, along with the appealing, coupe-inspired configuration, and well-known Toyota value and quality of the Camry are some of the reasons why this model continues to retain its flagship status in the mid-size sedan segment. The Camry has also been one of the longest-running models in the automobile sector.
A fresh look at the front differentiates the comfort-oriented XLE and LE grades from the athletic-oriented XSE and SE for 2021. An updated front fascia for the Camry XLE and LE grades demonstrates a more distinct lower intake area.
The gas version of the LE grade also introduces a new 17-inch alloy wheel design, while the XLE includes a reconfigured 18-inch alloy wheel. The XSE and SE grades display a bolder reconfigured lower fascia form, which features side vent inserts and a honeycomb-style grille, including new side vent embellishments.
As an accent to the upgraded design, the 2021 Camry elevates its exterior paint palette with the new Blueprint as a replacement for the Blue Streak Metallic. Along with this is a modern, exceptional color for the Camry TRD, Ice Edge with a two-tone Midnight Black Metallic roof.
The XSE grades currently come in a two-tone Supersonic Red with Midnight Black Metallic roof combination.
All 2021 Camry models now include the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, the latest version of the auto brand’s revolutionary driver assist technology range, which includes automatic emergency braking.
The 2021 Camry provides a selection of three powertrains, namely the next-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS II), 3.5-liter V-6, and 2.5-liter dynamic force four-cylinder.
The dynamic force 2.5-liter engine is a powerful yet smooth operator, generating an exceptional 203hp power output and 249Nm of peak torque. Most AWD grades produce 202hp of output, while the Camry XSE AWD grade has 205hp with dual exhaust.
The 2021 Toyota Camry is also one of the few mid-size sedans to continue providing a V6 engine. The 24-valve DOHC 3.5-liter engine is fitted with the D-4S direct inject system, including a specially enhanced VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing-Intelligent Wide) variable valve timing system for the intake and a VVT-I on the exhaust. It generates an outstanding power output of 301hp and a 362Nm peak torque.
The performance-tuned Camry TRD, which was launched for 2020, retains its unique, aero-improved configuration.
The 2021 Camry TRD currently comes as a standard with rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitor, including heated exterior mirrors.
Inside, the Camry features outstanding craftsmanship, luxurious styling, and functionality. The dash layout provides the driver an athletic cockpit-type feel while treating the front passenger and the driver to a spacious outward visibility. An all-encompassing character line goes down from the instrument panel and crosses the center console waterfall.
The long-distance seat comfort is a Camry standout, and this has been merged with ratcheted seat design for 2021. Delicate stitching on the rear- and front-seat surfaces embodies high-quality craftsmanship for the whole car.
Another new feature for the 2021 model is the textured herringbone seat pattern on the XLE grade. Ventilated front seats are also included in the XSE and XLE grades.
