Chery Tiggo 7 Pro gets 5-star ANCAP rating

MANILA: The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro received a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

Four key areas were evaluated, and the Tiggo 7 Pro scored 88 percent in adult occupant protection, 87 percent in child occupant protection, 72 percent in vulnerable road user protection, and 86 percent in safety assist.

The crossover comes standard with dual frontal airbags, side chest protection airbags, side head protection airbags on the first and second rows, and a driver knee airbag. A center airbag also gives added protection to front seat occupants.

Safety is further guaranteed by the advanced driver assistance technologies such as autonomous emergency braking system, lane support system with active lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and emergency lane keeping.

The ability for an occupant to safely exit the vehicle when flooded was also tested. The Tiggo 7 Pro's doors would remain functional for a minimum time period. The vehicle also comes with a safety escape hammer to allow egress through the windows.

In the 2023 assessment, ANCAP gives a vehicle points for having doors and windows that open while submerged in water, for having windows that open without interruption, and for having a “break glass” safety feature.

Three of the nine cars rated by ANCAP this year have proven to be capable of opening windows, and the Tiggo 7 Pro is the first to come equipped with a safety escape hammer to allow window exit.

“2023 has been a record year for new car sales, and coupled with the new ANCAP safety ratings published this year, we have seen coverage of a mix of brands, price-points and powertrains from both mainstream and emerging brands… Next year, we’re expecting to see further choice for consumers with a number of new high-selling models entering the market,” ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg stated.
