Chevrolet C8.R Corvette debuts at Kennedy Space Center
MANILA: The Corvette badge has become a household name in the international racing scene for quite a long time. And if you have not heard of it, admit it: you’re living under a rock. These rear-wheel drive American-made cars were best remembered as front-engine vehicles.
But all that was about to change. Seemingly taking a cue from the Chevrolet C8 Corvette, the C8.R recently made its debut at the Kennedy Space Center. The latest race car from Corvette transcended to a midship layout—similar to those in the production line. Sharing the spotlight at the venue was the C8 Stingray.
The said shift from front-engine is said to be the premier venture of the American carmaker into a mid-ship layout for the GTLM class racing. The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R which will hit the tracks early next year, specifically at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2020.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R is expected to enjoy the same limelight that the Corvette Racing experienced for the past 20 years. This means it has to add more to the 107 chequered flags it bagged since it returned in the racing scene in 1999. Chevrolet holds the title for the most number of finishes than any other sports car racing team in North America.
But the engine placement is not the only thing that is new with the C8 .R race car. Its aesthetics will also sport very lively details.
The No. 4 C8.R will sport hues inspired by the 1973 Chevrolet Corvette and the 1959 Corvette Stingray Racer--silver livery with yellow accents. On the other hand, the No. 3 car will have the traditional Corvette Racing yellow color with silver accents.
We still have to wait to see if the two cars get to live to the expectations set by its forefathers on the tracks come 2020. We slightly hope (but with tons of prayer involve) that it will.
