Chevrolet Sail Makes its First Philippines Debut at 2016 MIAS

MANILA: Manila International Auto Show is the biggest automobile fest of the country. This annual event stages some the biggest car launches of the year along with some great futuristic concepts. Thus, making it one of the biggest attraction point visited by thousands of people year after year. All this makes MIAS the perfect launch location for any automaker, as the car automatically seeks attention, grabs headlines and gets an immediate feedback. One such intelligent automaker to have staged its car at the ongoing auto show is Chevrolet. This American automaker has showcased its successful B-segment sedan Sail for the first time in the Philippines market.

Chevrolet Sail may be a new name for our market, but the car has played two successful innings in the international market, China to be specific. Initially, Sail was manufactured for the Chinese commercial market, but later seeing its positive reviews, it mutated into a successful family car. What we are about to get is the third-generation Sail, with its first generation dictating global market from 2001-2009 and the second generation commanding the market for next six years (2010-2015).

Though the car is currently being showcased at the MIAS, but as per the known information, it will not go on sale before June, 2016. Seems like Chevrolet wants to give its prospective consumers, enough time to thoroughly analyse Sail before buying. Hopefully, it won't go against Chevrolet!

Talking about Chevrolet Sail's under skin specs, the car will be offered in two engine options, both running on gasoline. One will be a 99 hp generating 3.0L 4CYL mill while other will be a 1.5L engine producing 109 hp of power. The said mills will route power to the wheels via a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox.

Sail 3, as it is known in the global market has an impressive exterior body. Its dimension sheet reads 4300 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1504 mm in height. Making it perfect to compete against the likes of Mazda2, Honda Brio Amaze and Mitsubishi Mirage G4.

2016 Sail features an inviting interior, crafted with aluminium accents on the center console and multifunctional steering. Increasing its style quotient further is the beige and grey dual-tone theme. All this comes as an improvement over its previous generations.

On the safety front, Sail is guarded by features like four airbags, Anti-lock brake system, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Cornering Brake Control.

Only the time will tell, how well this new American kid rival against the existing market players and will it or will it not affect their market share.
