Chevrolet Spark: Features explained

The Chevrolet Spark is one car that will definitely wow you with its design. When first unveiled to the world, the Spark instantly, err...lit a spark, in many a buyer's hearts. It was modern, had tons of features and most of all, was affordable. All of this is a recipe which will lull any Filipino first time buyer. And it indeed is. The Chevrolet Spark did sell in very good numbers. A few years later, that is in 2017, the Spark got an update and this included both exterior as well as interior bits. Not to mention, the Chevrolet Spark specifications too underwent a change. So, here are all the features of the new Chevrolet Spark laid on a platter. We dissect them for you.

Exterior features

The previous-gen Spark had a bit of chrome on the grille, however, this one uses more of black elements. We like the way the bowtie grille has been dissected and flanking it are teardrop shaped LED projector headlights. These headlights also have LED DRLs next to them. Long gone are the fog lights which were shaped more like dinner saucers. The ones on the car now are more conventional units. With the update, 15-inch alloy wheels too have been added to the equation. Move to the rear and you will definitely notice the Chevy Sail influences here. Especially with the tail light shape as well as hidden exhaust design. Small reflector lights too are part of the equation. Courtesy of a new bumper at the rear, the Spark has got reverse parking sensors placed higher up now.

If you look at the color options, the Chevrolet Spark is offered in Summit White, Black Meet Kettle, Brimstone, Switchblade Silver, Pull Me Over Red, Mint My Mind, and Sun Of A Gun Gray Metallic.

Interior features

The cabin of the new Chevrolet Spark is as stylish as the exterior. This includes adjustable headrests, a motorcycle styled instrument cluster as well as other features. Chevrolet MyLink is now available with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display and mirrors the smartphone on to the vehicle’s screen. It connects via Bluetooth as well as USB. There is a multi-function steering wheel on offer and it also has audio controls as well as telephony. Ambient interior lights too are offered. A low gloss finish is offered on the dashboard as well. This helps reduce glare to a great extent and looks classy at the same time. The ORVMs are electrically adjustable and also have a heating function. This, in turn, will help dissipate moisture faster in the rainy season, thereby increasing visibility.

Manual climate control too is offered on the Spark. Seating space is decent for four passengers. There are multiple cup and bottle holders on offer as well. The boot space of 195 litres is best in its class and the rear bench can further be tumbled to liberate more room.

Engine and transmission

There is a lone petrol engine on offer. GM used to bring the Spark earlier with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. However, there is a bigger, more powerful and at the same time efficient motor. The 1.4-litre dual variable valve timing motor produces 99 PS of power and 128 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual or CVT can be paired to this motor.

Suspension

Suspension of the Chevrolet Spark comprises of MacPherson struts in the front and torsion beam at the back. An electric power steering is used as well.

Safety features

In terms of safety, all features are standard across the three trims available. This includes dual airbags, traction control (not available with the manual), central door lock, auto lock, defogger, seatbelt warning for all passengers, ISOFIX child seat mounts as well as an engine immobiliser.

Price and variants

As discussed before, there are three trims on offer. These include Spark 1.4 LT MT, Spark 1.4 LT CVT and Spark 1.4 LTZ CVT. The Chevrolet Spark price in the Philippines starts from Php 694,888 for the MT, Php 734,888 for the LT CVT and Php 859,888 for the LTZ CVT. All the cars here come with a five-year warranty or one lakh km whichever is earlier.
