Chris Porritt - Next in Line to Depart from Tesla & Enter Apple
MANILA: Its seems that Apple is again proving Elon Musk claim of being a 'Tesla Graveyard' true. The Cupertino-based company is seen picking up Tesla’s leftover, leaving no room for doubt that what started as a joke (referring to Elon's Comment) is slowly turning into a reality. Maintaining the momentum, the next name to appear on Apple’s employee list having a prior relation with Tesla is Chris Porritt, who is said to lead Apple's EV programme 'Project Titan'.
It's no doubt that Chris indeed is the right pick for the said job, as he is one of the most efficient and experienced persons in the auto field. A glance at his work-ex will give a clear idea of his ability -
Pre-Silicon Era: A key engineer at a British auto company Silicon Era: Joined Land Rover as an intern in 1987 & promoted to Principal Engineer in Vehicle Dynamics in 1997 Post JLR: Joined Aston Martin as Chief Engineer Tesla Period: Moved to Elon's company in 2013 as VP of Vehicle Engineering No Movement Time: From September 2015 to early this month he was not associated with any big names Current status: An Apple employee leading the so-called secretive 'Project Titan'
Impressed, well anyone would be, but that doesn't change the fact that Apple has once again hired an ex-Tesla employee. Maybe Apple sees it as an opportunity to take-in Tesla teaching/ work culture through its ex-employee or it can be a mere coincidence of hiring a person who earlier had a Tesla connect.
Hiring for Project Titan is on for quite some time now and this electronic giant is seen building a strong team for the same. Roughly eight months back Apple hired Jamie Carlson, former Tesla engineer for this special electric car project. Other genius minds that will be seen accompanying ex-Tesla employees under Apple's roof include Megan McClain (former VW engineer), Vinay Palakkode (Carnegie Mellon University researcher), Xianqiao Tong ( ex-Nvidia employee) and Paul Frugal (former Deputy Director of the Autonomous System Lab at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). With the latest being Doug Betts, who worked in Global Quality Department of Fiat Chrysler.
These are only a few big names that will be contributing to Apple's EV project, with actual employee figure exceeding 100, as said by Tim Cook.
