Lamborghini factory temporarily halts production amid Coronavirus (Covid-19) threat

MANILA: After a series of auto-shows and launch events falling prey to the epidemic Coronavirus, the drastic effects don’t seem to stop anyhow.

In order to safeguard the health of the workforce and support the government to maintain public health and safety, Lamborghini has decided to halt the production process until March 25. With the recent spread of Coronavirus to the country of Italy, the Italian automaker has decided to act very proactively and cease the production process, so as to safeguard the labors and workforce.

It is to note that all of the marque’s vehicles are manufactured at its production plant in Bologna, northern Italy, which will cease till March 25, as of now.

The Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini stepped out to issue an official statement on this. He added that “this measure is an act of social responsibility and high sensitivity towards our people. This epidemic is an extraordinary situation and we must take extreme caution because right now the virus is spreading worldwide. The company will continue to monitor the situation in order to resume production, when the time is right”.

The other Italian automaker of sports car, Ferrari, has contradicted to all the steps taken by its fellow automaker. Ferrari has confirmed that its Maranello factory will continue production operations despite strict quarantine measures followed by the Italian government. Ferrari claims to have adopted all the necessary precautions and measures for its employees and providing them with best possible conditions to work under. As per the new law enacted by the Italian government, it prohibits any sort of public gatherings but Ferrari claims that the law does not stop individuals from working. However, everything is eventually linked to the carmaker’s supply chain.

As stated by Enrico Galliera, the commercial chief of Ferrari “Our supply chain is still in place and we’re carefully monitoring supplies. As of now, we do not foresee any short-term problems. It helps that we don’t sell based on availability but based on our order book. This way we are able to manage future production also”.

The Maranello-based company is, however, acting proactively and said that it is in constant discussion with the authorities and is ready to adapt all the safety measures as per the current situation.
