Dodge Challenger shows why old is gold
MANILA: What’s the first car that pops up inside of your head when you hear the word “sports car”? Majority of the answers would be “Ford Mustang” and rightly so. The American heart throbber has been ruling the roads across the planet since long.
The fact is further strengthened by the sales charts that keep rolling out year after year. And numbers don’t lie, do they? However, in praising the top performer, we generally forget about the runner-ups. Addressing the second and the third best performers today, we have with us the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro.
While both the Challenger and Camaro are two names which we are very familiar with, not many know about the length of the roads travelled by the two sports cars. To familiarise you with the history now, the current-gen Dodge Challenger made its way out in 2008,
whereas the newest iteration of the Chevrolet Camaro was rolled out in 2016 only. Considering the affection population usually shows towards newer models, the Dodge Challenger has just defied the norms and defeated a fairly newer car in terms of the number of units sold.
In the first quarter (Q1) of 2019, a period when the Chevrolet Camaro found 12,083 homes, the Dodge Challenger outclassed its counterpart by successfully becoming a companion of 13,431 people. The top of the podium was, once again, grabbed by the Ford Mustang with 16,917 trades.
Detroit Free Press has given the credit of this success to the numerous Challenger models available along with the special editions which keep coming out from time to time. The availability of an all-wheel-drive and the special models like “Demon” and “Hellcat” have been the major driving force behind the high sales figures, understands Detroit Free Press.
The report also shows that the overall sales of these sports cars have been declining since 2015. After a total of 372,770 units of the three sports cars being sold in the year 2015, the figure came down to 273,186 in 2018.
Another fact that might raise your eyebrows is that the Dodge Challenger is improving its sales figures with the passage of time, whereas the Chevrolet Camaro is losing its grip in the market. The Ford Mustang hasn’t observed any inclination or drop in its sales, though.
