It immediately became known as the “Black Ghost” after flaunting its 426 HEMI-powered muscle on Woodward before inexplicably disappearing into the night and not being seen for several months. In 2020, Qualls’ car became more than just a local legend. It was added to the National Historic Vehicle Register and is still with the Qualls family today.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost is the sixth of seven special-edition Dodge “Last Call” models which honor the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, whose current iterations are approaching their end. Previously unveiled “Last Call” models include the Dodge Challenger Shakedown, Dodge Charger Super Bee, Dodge Challenger and Charger Scat Pack Swinger, and Dodge Charger King Daytona.
“There are so many legendary muscle cars in Dodge brand history, it was hard to choose the seven vehicles we wanted to pay homage to with our Last Call lineup, but the Black Ghost was an easy pick. The 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost is the prelude to what we’re going to unveil with our seventh and final special-edition model,” Dodge Chief Executive Officer Tim Kuniskis stated.
Aside from the seven “Last Call” special-edition models, Dodge also brings back three cherished heritage exterior colors to its 2023 lineup. These colors include B5 Blue, Plum Crazy Purple, and Sublime Green. One popular modern color, Destroyer Grey, is also back. The Charger and Challenger each offer 14 exterior color options for the 2023 model year. There is also a new “345” fender badging that references the 345-cubic-inch HEMI engine under the hood.
A special commemorative “Last Call” underhood plaque will be included on every 2023 Charger and Challenger unit, making them a true collector’s vehicle. The brushed aluminum plaque indicates the vehicle name and a vehicle silhouette, along with “Designed in Auburn Hills” and “Assembled in Brampton” to declare the origin of each vehicle.
Dodge is also expanding the reach of its popular SRT Jailbreak models, which were first released for the Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody earlier this year, unlocking ordering restrictions on color combinations and premium featues. The 717hp Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat will also have Jailbreak variants available for the 2023 model year, giving more owners the chance to create their own unique muscle car.
Dodge will be releasing the ordering details for the 2023 Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger later this year.
