DOTr inspects EDSA Busway, launches mini-loop routes today
MANILA: The DOTr (Department of Transportation) inspected the EDSA Busway on Sunday and launches today new mini-loop routes for city buses.
Yesterday, a DOTr team led by Assistant Secretaries for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark de Leon and Mark Steven Pastor, Road Sector Senior Consultant Bert Suansing, together with MMDA Traffic Head for EDSA Bong Nebrija, MMDA Traffic Engineering Center Engr. Danneedee Bobadilla and representatives from LTFRB, I-ACT, and bus operators went to various designated bus stops along the new EDSA Busway on the innermost lane of the thoroughfare.
The integrity of the structures such as steel railings and barriers, pedestrian overpass, at-grade crossing, and lifters for the commuters were checked, along with speed of construction to ensure that it will finish on time.
Bus stops will have proper ingress and egress procedures, including accessible crossings and pathways, which will be complementary to the existing MRT-3 station facilities for easier access especially to PWDs and senior citizens.
The EDSA Busway is composed of dedicated and controlled lanes exclusively for accredited public utility buses. It is protected from disruption of other vehicles which then guarantees the safety of the bus drivers and passengers, and minimizes traffic congestion and delays.
In related news, the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) has launched two mini-loop routes today and will open one more on Wednesday, 01 July.
The first route is Monumento-MRT Quezon Ave. Station with the following stops:
The second route is PITX-Ayala with the following stops:
On July 1, the South-Santolan route will begin operations.
