Euro 4 compliant Mitsubishi L300 unveiled
MANILA: L300 is a vehicle that earned Mitsubishi a name for itself in the Philippines. After doing so well for a long time in the country, the workhorse is back with a new heart. The design language, however, is more or less the same as before.
But does one consider the appearance when buying a vehicle like Mitsubishi L300? The changes on the exterior include a new chrome grill at the front along with a longer than before rear cab. The dual rear doors and flush-fitted windows are the other notable updates on the L300.
Move inside the new L300 and you are greeted with the same interior as before. There are same old elements like air-conditioning vents from the past and a basic steering wheel. The column shifter along with the hand brake and the wind-down window handles are all still present inside the L300.
There is, however, a new audio unit with a touch of the modern world. At the rear, the exposed metal floor, centre-mounted air-conditioning system, and side facing seats have made their way to the updated Mitsubishi L300 as well.
While no details were revealed about the powertrain on the updated L300, MMC's Yoichiro Yatabe did rule out the possibility of the 4D5 series featuring on the workhorse. This gave rise to speculations that the new L300 might be housing the 4N1 series mill that we have already seen on the likes of Montero Sport and Strada. Soon enough, we got to know that the new L300 houses a 2.2-litre 4N14 motor.
As a matter of fact, Delica D:5, which is the successor of the L300 in other markets is also powered by an engine of the same series. Mitsubishi managed to trade over 14,000 units of the Philippine made L300 in the year 2018 and with the arrival of an updated, Euro 4 compliant model, the sales are presumed to go up. Mitsubishi has not announced the official launch date or time frame yet, but the L300 is expected to make its way to the Filipino showrooms and roads in the third or fourth quarter of 2019.
