EVAP requests exemption from BOC IAS to streamline clearance process for EV importation

MANILA: The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) is pushing for its exemption in the Bureau of Customs' (BOC) Import Assessment System (IAS).

    Last Saturday, EVAP executives met with BOC Assistant Commissioner Jet Maronilla to discuss the agency's policies regarding EV importation.

    At the meeting, Maronilla pointed out the importance of proper classification while acknowledging the challenges faced by the BOC due to the juvenility of the EV industry in the country.

    According to him, the BOC is currently working to overcome these early obstacles as the EV market is rapidly growing as a result of the recently implemented Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA).

    EVAP Chairman Rommel Juan said that he is confident regarding the "proactive approach" taken by the organization and the BOC in clarifying importation policies. According to him, this partnership will open the door for an easier and more efficient importation process for EVs to ensure that this revolutionary industry continues to thrive in the country.
