Ferrari collaborates to produce respirator valves and protective mask fittings
MANILA: The prancing horse brand is providing support to health workers in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by helping produce respirator valves and fittings for protective masks at its Maranello plant.
The facility where Ferrari car prototypes are usually built has been repurposed into a production hub for these thermoplastic components using additive manufacturing technology.
Diving equipment maker produces Mares redevelops some of its masks into emergency masks to assist patients suffering from respiratory failure.
Nuovamacut Gruppo TeamSystem, which helped with the research of the different companies who contributed to the success of the project, handled project logistics.
Some fittings are supplied to Solid Energy which, in turn, will use them to convert its Decathlon snorkel masks into protective equipment for frontline health workers.
Ferrari expressed its plans in the next few days to "manufacture several hundred items of equipment" already distributed by some of the companies involved in the undertaking, with the coordination of the Italian Civil Protection. These will be provided to various Italian hospitals "including those in Bergamo, Genoa, Modena, and Sassuolo as well as to health workers in the town of Medicina, near Bologna."
