Ford BlueCruise is a hands-free semi-autonomous driving system.According to the American carmaker, the nameplate has been updated to suit the needs of the modern family, which is always on the go. Specifically, it now features more creature comforts and on-board tech, as well as a peppier lineup of engine options.
Let us go over some of the specifications and features of the all-new Ford Expedition to get to know it a little bit better.
Exterior
Starting with its appearance, the eight-seater SUV has adopted the modern Ford design language. The result is an imposing, high-riding model with squared corners.
Up front, the vehicle wears a sizable grille, which was fitted with grille-integrated LED lights. The model’s main LED headlamp clusters, in particular, are neatly tucked inside the corners of the grille’s frame, while the LED daytime running lamps form an outline surrounding the entire grille.
From the bottom, the front fascia is capped by a chunky lower bumper with functional corner vents. It is also topped by a flat but expansive bonnet.
From the side, the vehicle gets a straight profile leading towards a subtle-looking rear end. The aforementioned section of the ride does come with eye-catching LED taillights and a silver-colored faux rear diffuser.
Here are other notable exterior features of the next-gen Ford full-size SUV:
- Power-folding side mirrors
- Roof rails
- Split-folding Power tailgate
- 18-inch wheels
- Exterior “Zone” auxiliary lamps
Interior
Step inside the all-new Expedition, and one will be greeted by a roomy three-row layout coupled with a well-arranged, modern cockpit.
For the driver, the SUV provides a huge center console, which is mostly formed by a large center armrest and storage box combo. Physical controls for the model’s automatic climate control system and other vehicle functions, meanwhile, are neatly tucked below the model’s floating-type 13.2-inch central infotainment display.
Larger still is the model’s digital driver’s display, which spans 24 inches. It forms a panoramic view specifically for the person piloting the SUV, and it has a number of integrated software such as the following:
- Google Play
- Google Assistant
- Google Maps
- Amazon Alexa
Additionally, the central screen comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Topping up devices inside the all-new Expedition is also made easy thanks to a wireless smartphone charging pad and a wealth of USB ports.
Other notable interior features of the model include a panoramic sunroof, a 40:20:40 split-folding third row, leather upholstery, a dial-type gear selector, and an electronic parking brake, among others.
Safety
As expected, the next-gen Ford Expedition was provided with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist systems. The most notable safety-related tech feature of the model, however, is the updated BlueCruise hands-free semi-autonomous driving system.
Per the Blue Oval brand, BlueCruise can automatically change lanes with a tap of the turn signal stalk. It can also reposition within a lane automatically and shift away safely from other vehicles on other road lanes.
As a side note, BlueCruise is offered in the United States (US) market as a subscription service. Each purchase of the next-gen three-row SUV, however, comes with a 90-day free trial.
Powertrain
Concerning powertrains, the next-gen Expedition has two options. The Active and King Ranch are exclusively propelled by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 mill capable of producing up to 400 horsepower (hp) and 650 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.
On the other hand, the off-road-capable Tremor version is propelled by a high-output version of the aforementioned EcoBoost engine. At maximum, it can generate 440 hp and 691 Nm of torque.
Both engine options mentioned above are available on the luxury-oriented Platinum.
When properly equipped, Ford says that the next-gen Expedition can tow up to 4,356 kilograms when using a weight-distributing hitch. Easier trailer hitching is also provided by the brand’s Pro Trailer Hitch Assist.
Tremor
Standing out from the next-gen Expedition lineup is the Tremor.
Per Ford, the said trim is the first-ever off-road-rated model under the Expedition nameplate. It is equipped with additional improvements, such as a set of 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires, a re-tuned suspension system, grille-mounted off-road lights, under-body protection, and Raptor-inspired running boards, and a front skid plate.
The Tremor also comes with a trail turn assist system similar to the one found on the Ford Bronco. It can also deal with particular rough and rocky terrain thanks to the presence of a “Rock Crawl” drive mode.
Availability
As of this writing, the Michigan-based car manufacturer has yet to disclose the pricing and the full specs list of the next-gen Expedition. More details for the model, however, will be released when its selling period in the US starts in the first quarter of 2025.
In the local context, Ford Philippines has yet to say if it’ll bring in the next-gen full-size SUV. Do remember, however, that Blue Oval’s local arm had previously sold the said model before its local discontinuation back in 2022.
