Ford to Assemble Gorilla Glass Hybrid in 2017 Ford GT
MANILA: Ford motor company has emerged as a leader in manufacturing premium sports car. Now, this American brand is all set to debut its 2017 Ford GT with Gorilla glass hybrid that is just like a tough impenetrable windshield. The new windshield technology was tested over many parameters like road conditions, wind tunnel testing, etc.
Gorilla Glass Hybrid Window is co-developed by Ford and Corning to assemble it on the new GT. It makes an extra layer using a pane to make the windshield tough and the hybrid strengthens the inner part. It also uses an advanced thermoplastic layer that acts as a noise absorber, while the annealed glass is placed as the outer layer.
The new Gorilla Glass hybrid window is about 25-50 percent thinner and holds greater strength in comparison to the traditional laminate. The reduction in thickness also reduces the weight of each panel, making the glass more robust. The new hybrid Gorilla glass has gone through various processes like unique edge treatment, laminate construction, and unique edge treatment.
Ford took inspiration from various consumer products that use Gorilla Glass and came up with this idea of developing a tough, durable, and scratch resistant windshield along with a cover for rear engine. Ford engineers tested a unit of Gorilla glass by hitting with with a 1.75-inch hail ball at 55 mph and the glass didn’t shatter like a simple conventional glass. Ford will manufacture 250 GT super cars with a lightweight carbon fibre body every year in Canada.
Hau Thai-Tang, Ford group vice president, Global Purchasing, commented, “Ford GT is using latest technology and innovation to offer more performance and the Gorilla Glass hybrid shows Ford’s commitment for innovating new ideas for various businesses.”
