Ford to delay BEV launches, shifts focus to hybrids

MANILA: Ford Motor Company is “retiming” the launch of an all-new three-row battery-electric vehicle.

Per the Blue Oval brand, the said move will see the company hold back the market launch of the aforementioned sport utility vehicle from 2025 to 2027.

Additionally, Ford will also push back the launch of an all-new electric pickup truck to 2026.

The American automotive brand noted that the additional time can help Ford take advantage of emerging battery technology to give its customers vehicles with increased durability and better value.

Most importantly, the delay will allow the Dearborn-based brand to expand its hybrid electric vehicle lineup to meet today’s demand. Ford expects to offer hybrid powertrains across its entire Ford Blue lineup in North America by the end of the decade.

“As the number two EV (electric vehicle) brand in the US (United States) for the past two years, we are committed to scaling a profitable EV business, using capital wisely, and bringing to market the right gas, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles at the right time,” Ford President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley said in a press release.

“Our breakthrough, next-generation EVs will be new from the ground up and fully software enabled, with ever-improving digital experiences and a multitude of potential services,” he added.

Ford is yet to bring electric cars into the country. Its Philippine lineup includes iconic internal combustion engine-powered nameplates like the Territory, Everest, Explorer, and Ranger.

Soon to follow are the Bronco and latest iteration of the Mustang pony car.
