MANILA: Ford has revealed its revamped electric vehicle (EV) plan. Under the new roadmap, the American car brand will launch two new pickup trucks in 2027 and a new ”digitally advanced commercial van” in 2026.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What will Ford launch in 2027?

Ford will launch two fully-electric pick-up truck models in 2027.
  • What version of the Ford F-150 uses a fully-electric powertrain?

The fully-electric version of the Ford F-150 is the F-150 Lightning.
  • For now, the Michigan-based car maker did not reveal any clear details about the said models.

However, the company shared that one will be a midsize pickup truck based on a platform designed by Ford’s California Skunkworks team and the other, a next-generation version of an existing model to be built at the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center.

Ford has dubbed the latter “Project T3,” and once it is launched, it will feature bi-directional charging and advanced aerodynamics. It will likewise incorporate everything the brand has learned from developing and selling the F-150 Lightning.

No further information was provided regarding the new commercial van, but Ford mentioned that it will be built in Ohio.

Furthermore, the American marque shared that it has already realigned its battery sourcing plan for the US market. Specifically, it is set to move its Mustang Mach-E battery production to Michigan instead of Poland. The company says the said decision may help reduce costs in its current and future EV production.

Additionally, the brand said its next three-row sports utility vehicles will all leverage hybrid technologies instead of giving the said models all-electric powertrains. Regardless of the change of plans, the American brand still has to fork out $400 million for the manufacturing assets it previously acquired to build the aforementioned EV three-row SUV models.

Per Ford Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer John Lawler, the brand’s yearly spending on EV development will be reduced from 40 percent of its budget down to just 30 percent.

Ford President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley also noted that the new plan is designed to truly cater to what its clients want.

“We learned a lot as the Number 2 US electric vehicle brand about what customers want and value, and what it takes to match the best in the world with cost-efficient design, and we have built a plan that gives our customers maximum choice and plays to our strengths,” Farley was quoted as saying.
