Ford’s newest crossover is called Puma
MANILA: In the year 2012, Ford launched its to be one of the most successful crossovers, EcoSport. After a good 7 years of tasting continuous glory, the Ford EcoSport is certainly due for a major overhaul, isn’t it?
However, we do not see Ford bringing in a new model of the successful crossover just yet. What we do see at a very close distance is that the American automaker is set to bring out its newest crossover very soon.
What looks like a contracted Ford Escape, the new crossover gets a title that was last used by Ford in the year 2002. Ford launched a small sports coupe called Puma in 1997 and then discontinued the sedan after a small run of 5 years. The revival of the nameplate is, however, done in the form of a crossover instead of another sports coupe.
The teased Puma takes its designing cues from the likes of newly introduced Escape. The car in the dark photo does appear to have a good enough ground clearance and the presence of high-set headlights with LED DRLs along with a large grille up front show more similarities between Puma and Escape.
While the car appears to be small, Ford has claimed that Puma will come with best in class luggage space. Another detail revealed by Ford tells us that the crossover will also have a hybrid powertrain that will include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder internal combustion engine working in conjunction with a 48 V lithium-ion air-cooled battery pack. The hybrid powertrain is said to produce a maximum power output of up to 155 PS, cited Ford.
This teaser of the newest crossover by Ford will be followed a full unveil later this year. While the reports say that the Puma will be sold in Europe, we believe that Ford will also supply the crossover to other markets around the globe as the American automobile manufacturer aims at selling its crossovers and SUVs across the planet.
