From Automaker to Mechanic - Volkswagen Down-Hill Journey

MANILA: It is indeed a downhill journey phase for Volkswagen. Glorious, sunshine days are over and now it’s time to stand rigid against the storm. Bad, awful days are here, and they are here to stay for long, VW people, you better gear up and believe us, do keep those tissue boxes ready. All this is not just in reference to the diesel scandal, but now the focus has shifted to the long recall list that it has to meet and that too without any delay.

In total Volkswagen group has a recall figure of 2.4 million + 8.5 million, of which 2.4 million cars are already recalled in Germany. And now the biggest transport authority has ordered one of the largest European auto recall of all times, spanning over to 8.5 million vehicles. With this latest update, the entire picture has turned upside down for VW, Why?

• Recall has expanded beyond the German borders

Initially, the brand placed the responsibility on individuals’ shoulders, who were required to drive in their cars and get it re-tuned, in short a voluntary recall. But now, Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), has asked for a compulsory recall of every single vehicle. The process of which will start by 2016.

VW will have to deal with a massive onslaught of cars, all requiring work simultaneously. For all this, the company has kept aside $7 billion, but with every increasing number, the amount seems to be in need to immediate up-gradation.
