Geely PH appoints Yosuke Nishi as new president effective May 1
MANILA: Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) has announced the appointment of Yosuke Nishi as the company’s new president and chief executive officer, effective May 1.
Nishi will be replacing the company’s incumbent chief Mikihisa Takayama, who will be fulfilling a new role in SGAP’s mother company, the Sojitz Corporation, in Tokyo, Japan.
Since the arrival of the Geely brand in the country in 2019, Takayama has led the company’s initiatives in expanding the brand’s reach in the Philippines. Under his leadership, SGAP was able to successfully launch the Geely Coolray, Geely Azkarra, and Geely Okavango despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite being a newcomer in the Philippine automotive market, Geely was able to achieve remarkable milestones during Takayama’s term. Geely has consistently recorded outstanding sales figures with the Coolray, making it the top-selling model in its segment in most months from 2020 to 2021. S
SGAP also recently announced that Geely ranked ninth, once again, in total industry sales for March.
As the current executive vice president of SGAP, Nishi has been working alongside Takayama in leading the company since 2019.
Nishi has been working in the Philippine automotive industry as an executive since 2012. Since then, he has always been amazed by the country and the Filipino people.
“Since I am really fascinated by the Filipino culture, I wanted to come back to the Philippines, and during my short stay in Japan, I had been visiting the Philippines for the preparation of the establishment of SGAP. I have worked on getting an approval from Sojitz to establish the Geely business,” Nishi stated.
With his efforts on expanding the Geely brand in the country, the incoming SGAP President and CEO has definitely established a deep connection with the business.
“Since SGAP, the Geely business in the Philippines, is my baby, I felt the need to grow it together with our customers and business partners. I want to assure everyone that SGAP/Geely Philippines can give the best services and experiences to the customers,” Nishi added.
