GR GT Cup Philippines 2021 e-motorsport tilt shifts into gear Apr. 30
MANILA: This summer, Toyota Gazoo Racing brings excitement to esports enthusiasts through the GR GT Cup Philippines 2021 e-motorsport tournament.
The event, which is hosted by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), will debut with the first round of races on April 30. More than 200 players are expected to join the hunt for a leaderboard position. Another heat and the semi-final race will be held on May 1, 2021.
Since the introduction of the e-motorsport program last year, the search of TMP for the fastest e-driver in the country has captured the imagination and attention of Filipino enthusiasts and gamers.
Toyota will reopen the digital tracks this year to host another heart-racing esports series for the gaming community.
Players can participate in any of the available classes. The Promotional Class is open to newbies with no professional e-Sports affinity and background.
Meanwhile, those who have raced professionally both in and outside the Philippines are qualified to participate in the Sporting Class. E-racers 17 years and below can participate in the Junior Class.
The Celebrity/Media class, which will be announced at a later date, will include some celebrities and members of the media.
Participants will go through numerous phases of qualifying rounds, where they can gain points. The top 24 finishers of the leaderboard challenge will move to the semi-final round where they will acquire points according to their finishing position. The top three semi-final winners will advance to the weekend’s final heat.
Multipliers are meant to make the competition more exciting. As they advance towards the final stage, points are multiplied by up to two. Racers are invited to participate and re-qualify in order to take advantage of the opportunity to gain a share of up to one million pesos worth of prizes.
Winners can bring home cash rewards as well as gear and gadgets, which include gaming peripherals and digital devices.
The overall champion of the final heat from every class will be declared as the fastest in the country and the ultimate 2021 GR GT Cup champion, and will also be entitled to receive more exciting prizes.
The GR GT Cup, which commemorates the concept of “waku doki” (thrill and excitement), upholds the passion of Toyota and Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) for manufacturing vehicles and innovating in the field of auto racing.
The aim of TGR is to produce better vehicles as it achieves success in prestigious events like endurance races and world rallies.
With the GR GT Cup, players are now given the opportunity to experience the thrill and pleasure of racing through the virtual tracks using Toyota vehicles.
TMP VP for Marketing Services Elijah Marcial said, “The GR GT Cup is really our way to continuously give a thrilling driving experience even with our limited physical movement. We cannot wait to find out who will be dominating the e-motorsports arena this year.”
The complete competition mechanics can be seen at the official website of Toyota Motor Philippines GR Supra GT Cup here. Information regarding the prizes and schedules may be modified without prior notice. Thus, customers are urged to visit the social media channels of the auto brand on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
