Have a look at the all-new SsangYong Korando
MANILA: SsangYong will be previewing the next-generation Korando at the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show. But to our delight, images of the compact SUV have already been released on the internet. The journey of an appealing design language that started with Tivoli and Musso, we see the feat continuing with the new Korando.
While the new Korando features a look somewhat reminiscent to a Volkswagen, the car is majorly a beefed up Tivoli. The much more planted profile of the updated SUV is courtesy the lower height and ground clearance. Overall, the new Korando packs an enhanced boxier and angular appearance when compared to the current-generation model.
Even after the changes, the ground clearance of the new Korando at 185 mm should prove enough to ride tall above the hurdles. Powering the SsangYong Korando will be a 1.6-litre e-XDI160 turbocharged diesel engine pumping out 138 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 300 Nm.
The power will be delivered to the wheels via either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic unit. The suspension setup on the compact SUV consists of MacPherson struts up front and independent multi-links at the rear.
Improving the safety and NVH levels of the new Korando is a platform made up of 74 % high-tensile steel. Moving inside the all-new Korando, we see a 9-inch HD infotainment screen equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Other features on the car include a sunroof, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, automatic walkaway locking,
220-volt power outlet in the second row, and an automatic dimming rearview mirror. Safety wise, the new Koranda gets seven airbags, ABS with EBD, and stability control along with “Deep Control” which is a safety suite comprising of blind spot monitoring, front collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, and front vehicle start alert.
While there is not much information about the arrival of the new SsangYong Koranda on the Filipino shores, we expect the compact SUV to make its way to the Philippines in 2019 itself.
