How many rugby balls were used for the record-breaking mosaic?
The mosaic was made up of 2,030 size-five rugby balls. When did the Guinness World Record attempt take place?
The Guinness World Record attempt took place on April 26 at the Twickenham stadium in the UK.The mosaic was made up of 2,030 size-five rugby balls: 813 supporter-quality red balls and 1,217 training-quality white balls. Gilbert, the official supplier of England Rugby, provided the balls.
Inside the world-famous Twickenham stadium, home of the England Rugby Union team, the mosaic encompassed an area of 104.6 square meters — nearly 14 Honda HR-V e:HEVs.
To guarantee that the record-breaking Honda logo mosaic conformed with Guinness World Records' criteria, it was subjected to rigorous quality testing. Documentary evidence, such as videography, photography, a surveyor's report, and independent witness reports, were required by Guinness World Records, the world's authority on record-breaking.
Honda signed a multi-year deal with the England Rugby Football Union earlier this year. One of the new projects is the inclusion of the Honda logo on the England men's under-18s and under-20s playing and training kits.
Honda is also committing to grassroots sports. The mosaic's record-breaking rugby balls will be given to grassroots rugby clubs across the UK.
“The initiative is key to our goal of strengthening relationships with local community groups. At least 60 grassroots rugby clubs and their local communities will benefit from access to more high-quality sports equipment,” Honda UK Customer and Network Development Head Michael Doyle stated.
The rugby balls will be delivered by Honda UK dealerships.
“We’re delighted to have set a new Guinness World Records title at the home of English rugby. It was an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the game at one of the most iconic stadiums in world sport, while also getting in the record books,” Honda UK Managing Director Jean-Marc Streng said. “Power of dreams is the Honda slogan for a reason. Being able to surprise our customers and our colleagues with an activity like this is incredible. It’s unconventional, but it’s also an amazing opportunity — especially because so many deserving local clubs are going to benefit from it. Sports and community are important to us, and we’re looking forward to continuing our pursuit of both.”
