Honda Brio: All you need to know
Considering the fact that the Brio has been quite a popular hatchback and that the competition in the segment is higher than ever before, Honda, finally, gave the Brio the update it really needed early this year. We have already covered the new 2019 Honda Brio extensively in our previous stories, however, consider this one as a combination of all that and a bit more.
Here’s all you need to know about the 2019 Honda Brio.
Exterior
The previous model of the Honda Brio had kind of a feminine look to it. Honda changed that completely by revising the entire aesthetics of the Brio in its latest iteration.
What changes did Honda do?
Ans. Well, to begin with, the front of the new Brio has been given a Honda Mobilio-type look. There’s a new set of large LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs, new front grille, and a sporty bumper with fog lamps. The side of the car gets a subtle character line which looks pretty neat. We also have new attractive alloy wheels.
The rear end of the new Brio has also been revamped. It now features a roof-mounted rear spoiler with high-mount stop lamp, sportier bumper, and a pair of new taillights. Overall, the 2019 Honda Brio is a big step up at least in terms of the design and style.
What are the colour options available in the new Brio?
Ans. Brio is available in 5 different colours - Taffeta White, Rallye Red, Modern Steel, Phoenix Orange and Carnival Yellow.
Interior
Honda Brio has always been appraised for its spacious cabin in its class. And the new model is even better. Honda has increased the dimensions of the new car which allowed it to provide a tad bit more legroom on the inside. So the rear passengers would now be even more comfortable than before. Also, the boot capacity has been increased to 258 litres.
Following are the revised dimensions of the latest Honda Brio-
Length | 3800 mm |
Width | 1680 mm |
Height | 1485 mm |
Wheelbase | 2405 mm |
Ground clearance | 137 mm |
Following are some of the key interior features-
- Better and more comfortable seats
- Controlled NVH levels
- Keyless entry
- Multifunctional steering wheel
- 7-in touch screen infotainment system
- 12V power socket
- Power-folding side mirrors
Engine
The new Honda Brio specs carry forward the same engine that had been powering the old Brio for years. This is an area which Honda left untouched, perhaps, to keep the costs in check. It is a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 89 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. Even the RS variant is powered by the same engine. In terms of refinement, it is quite smooth and doesn’t vibrate too much and also doesn’t like to be revved.
Following are the detailed engine specs-
Engine Type | SOHC i-VTEC |
Fuel Supply System | Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) |
Engine Displacement (cc) | 1199 |
Max. Power kW (ps) / rpm | 66 (90) / 6,000 |
Max. Torque N-m (kg-m) / rpm | 110 (11.2) / 4,800 |
Transmission | 5-speed MT / CVT |
Emission Rating | Euro 4 |
Drive System | FWD |
Safety features
If you were expecting to see some improved safety features in the new Honda Brio, you would be disappointed just like us. It feels like Honda didn’t pay much heed to safety. The only safety features worth mentioning are dual front airbags and ABS. The lack of proper safety features could be a major deal-breaker here. Honda had a good chance of making things right this time around but it didn’t.
So that’s all about the Honda Brio. It isn’t perfect even in its latest iteration but it sure is much better than its predecessor. Available in four variants - S MT, V CVT, RS CVT, and RS Black Top CVT - the Honda Brio price starts at Php 598,000 for its base model and reaches Php 735,000 for its range-topping variant.
