Honda Cars PH enters EV arena anew with 6th-gen CR-V
Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) has officially introduced the all-new CR-V — which is already on its sixth generation.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the all-new CR-V's engine options?
The all-new Honda CR-V comes in 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline and 2.0-liter gasoline with full hybrid powertrain technology. What are the all-new Honda Cr-V's three variants?
The all-new Honda CR-V variants are 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT, 1.5 VX Turbo CVT AWD, and 1.5 V Turbo CVT.With an aim to reach carbon neutral status for all products and activities by 2050, the latest Honda CR-V has been offered with a full hybrid option — making it the third electrified model that the local distributor brought to the country.
Per HCPI, the e:HEV full hybrid system signifies the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.
In addition, the sixth-generation Honda CR-V also dropped the diesel variety that was available in the country.
E:HEV system
To be offered in the top-spec trim, the e:HEV technology found in the all-new Honda CR-V merges Honda's gasoline engine and electrification technologies that helps the vehicle achieve low fuel consumption while still providing power.
The system features two electric motors (Traction Motor and the Generator Motor) that are paired with the new four-cylinder, 2.0-liter Direct Injection Atkinson Cycle engine.
On paper, the internal combustion engine can dish out 146 horsepower (hp) and 183 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque while the electric motor can provide up to 181 hp and 335 Nm.
The continuous variable transmission sends the aforementioned output to its wheels.
HCPI clarified that while the motor operates throughout low- to high-speeds, the e:HEV system relies on the gasoline engine alone when cruising at high speeds.
Further, the e:HEV has three operating approaches (EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive) in addition to the three drive modes (Sport, Normal, and Econ).
Likewise, the e:HEV system has a regenerative braking system and traction motor that harvest energy from deceleration and braking as well as recover friction losses to extend range and boost fuel economy. The battery can also be juiced up with the engine serving as a generator.
The All-New CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT comes with an eight-year or 200,000 kilometer battery warranty.
Turbocharged gasoline mill
The all-new Honda CR-V still comes with a purely-gasoline powered engine.
Fitted in the base and mid-grade trims is the turbocharged 1.5-liter direct-inject double overhead cam VTEC — first time to be offered in the local market. The upgraded powertrain can give a peak churn of 187 hp and 240Nm of pulling power (making it the most powerful gas-propelled CR-V to date).
Although it can deliver quality performance it also has the capability to provide better fuel economy. Based on United Nations Regulation 101 standards, the all-new Honda CR-V can do 19.4 kilometers per liter (kpl) for the e:HEV grade in urban driving and 16.4 kpl extra urban driving condition for the gasoline option.
Fully equipped with latest Honda Sensing technology
Also, all variants of the all-new Honda CR-V are equipped with the latest Honda Sensing driver assistive technology, which features a new front sensor camera and radar system.
HCPI noted that the new camera has a wider field of view (from 50 degrees to 90 degrees) and the radar mounted behind the Honda logo on the grille now has a 120-degree field of view (increased by 70 degrees from the previous generation.
The Honda Sensing suite of technologies include the following: collision mitigation braking system, lane keep assist system, road departure mitigation system with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, auto high beam, adaptive driving beam (exclusive on top-grade version) as well as lead car departure notification system.
Built with Honda Connect
Also, the all-new CR-V comes with the Honda Connect system that allows connection of users with their cars via a smartphone application using smart telematics technology.
Eyed to enhance ownership experience, the Honda Connect enables customers to communicate with their vehicle, check its status, and be notified of alerts using their mobile devices.
Automatic collision detection, security alarm detection, speed alert, Find My Car, geofencing alert, emergency call, car status, remote vehicle control, and service reminder are all under Honda Connect.
Sporty and smart
Now longer and wider, the all-new Honda CR-V boasts bolder lines and a sleek roofline that gives it a broader stance — ensuring a commanding presence on the road.
The e:HEV kind sits on 18-inch piano black aluminum alloy wheels while the other two options run on silver aluminum alloys.
Inside the cabin, the all-new Honda CR-V is installed with numerous amenities such as leather seats, nine-inch touchscreen (Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto-ready) mated to an eight-speaker set-up, and up to 1,064 liters of cargo space.
“As a mobility manufacturer dedicated to the environment, Honda has for decades been engaged in developing a full range of vehicle electrification technologies. We are proud to launch the all-new Honda CR-V in the Philippines as this generation is one of many firsts. It is the first CR-V with e:HEV technology which delivers outstanding driver pleasure and exceptional environment performance, and i-VTEC Turbo power which provides agile acceleration and a sophisticated driving experience with also much environmental performance,” HCPI President Rie Miyake said.
“The all-new Honda CR-V also ushers in Honda CONNECT, and we believe that this technology will further enhance the experience of our customers. More than an application, it’s a communication system with your Honda vehicle and with us. We are also proud to say that Honda SENSING is standard in all variants. There is no doubt that the Honda CR-V is an SUV that is close to Filipino hearts, and we are confident that the all-new model will continue that legacy,” she added.
