Honda City sedan and hatch excel in fuel economy run

MANILA: Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. has released the official results of the fuel economy run that was conducted in partnership with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).

The fuel economy run featured two of HCPI’s newly launched models, the City 1.5 RS CVT and the City Hatchback 1.5 RS CVT. After 73.5 kilometers of highway driving, the City Hatchback achieved a fuel mileage of 25kpl while the City achieved 25.17kpl. These figures are significantly higher than the 23.9kpl rate that the City achieved during the fuel economy run conducted in 2017.

To ensure that the fuel economy run was done under realistic driving situations, HCPI and AAP assured that both vehicles kept a speed of 60 to 80 kph at 1,500 to 2,000rpm. The cars’ air-conditioning systems were also set on low fan and at approximately 24 degrees.

The all-new City was launched in October 2020. The model’s fifth generation has become one of HCPI’s top sellers over the years. Meanwhile, the all-new City Hatchback was introduced last April as part of the company’s expansion of the City model lineup, particularly in the B-segment hatchback category.

Both cars are powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine that delivers the perfect balance between performance and fuel efficiency. The engine is coupled to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that generates a maximum power output of 121ps at 6,600rpm and a maximum torque of 145Nm at 4,300rpm.

In a statement, HCPI President Masahiko Nakamura said, “The fuel economy run is our own initiative, in partnership and under supervision of Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP). Through this, we hope to provide customers accurate information that would aid them to form a decision in their car selection and purchase process. The positive results from the activity reaffirm the fuel efficiency of both City models, hopefully making them a favorable sedan and hatchback choice for the Filipino people.”
