Honda Civic Type R gets ‘Racing Black Package' treatment

MANILA: Honda has launched a “Racing Black Package” for the Civic Type R.

Unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025, the latest offering comes as a special interior package that “expresses the racing spirit that Honda has cultivated over many years.”

As the name suggests, the Honda Civic Type R Racing Black Package features a cabin covered in black.

The vehicle features a high-quality black suede upholstery on the dashboard and many interior parts coordinated in dark hue.

“By creating a driving experience that allows the driver to concentrate more on driving, we provide customers with a new driving pleasure,” the Japanese automaker said in a statement.

Below are the Honda Civic Type R Racing Black Package’s notable design features:

• Ultrasuede dashboard/front door lining
• Honda Type R seats in Lux Suede/Black
• Wireless Chargers
• Auto-dimming rearview mirror
• Black pinstripe air-conditioner outlet
•  Silver pinstripe front power window switch panel
• Black air conditioning system control dial
• Black air conditioner outlet knob

According to Honda, the Honda Civic Type R Racing Black Package will be released in the Japan market on January 23. It will be retailed for JPY 5,998,300 (approximately P2.242 million).

Powering the vehicle is Honda’s turbocharged Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System (VTEC) mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Further, the Honda Civic Type R Racing Black Package can be had in the following color options:

• Championship White
• Sonic Gray Pearl (additional JPY 38,500 yen [around P14,404>)
• Crystal Black Pearl
• Frame Red
• Racing Blue Pearl

Locally, the Honda Civic Type R’s powertrain combination can dish out a peak of 429 horsepower and 420 Newton-meters of torque while its body color options are limited to Racing Blue and Championship White.

Moreover, the sports car wears a P3.87-million price tag.

To recall, Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated revealed the Mugen Civic Type R Group A at the 9th Philippine International Motor Show.  Offered in limited-run fashion, the car's kitted out option only had five units allotted for the country.
