Honda introduces new global EV series

MANILA: The Honda 0 Series, a new electric vehicle (EV) lineup that will be officially launched in 2026, was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 held in the United States.

Honda unveiled the Saloon and Space-Hub concepts at CES 2024.
  • What does the new Honda H mark logo represent?

The new H mark represents the momentous transformation that Honda goes through in launching the next generation of EVs.
  • Two concept models, the Saloon and the Space-Hub, made their global debuts at the event.

“We have gone back to basics and formulated the Honda 0 Series with a design for the new era. A bold and pure proportion that from the first glance is overwhelmingly different from other EVs to evoke a new perspective for people,” Honda Global Executive Vice President Shinji Aoyama stated.

The Saloon is the flagship concept model of the series. It is based on the Honda “M/M*1” man maximum/machine minimum packaging concept with a low and wide exterior and a spacious interior.

Inside, the instrument panel features a human-machine interface that makes operations intuitive and easy to use. With excellent visibility and a sporty driving position, the Saloon guarantees to deliver an exceptional driving experience that truly connects the driver with the car.

The Saloon also comes with a new steer-by-wire and motion control management system. Taking advantage of Honda's decades-long experience in robotics, the concept model has a posture control feature that will help drivers experience the “joy of driving” an EV in different conditions.

The Space-Hub, on the other hand, was designed with the goal of “augmenting people's daily lives.”

With a roomy interior and great visibility based on the “Thin, Light, and Wise” development approach, the Space-Hub provides a versatile space that accommodates a variety of passengers and turns into a “hub” that connects people to each other and the outside environment.

“The mobility we dream of is not an extension of the trend of ‘thick, heavy, but smart’ EVs. We will create a completely new value from zero based on thin, light and wise as the foundation for our new Honda 0 EV series to further advance the joy and freedom of mobility to the next level,” Honda Global Chief Executive Officer Toshihiro Mibe said.

Along with the introduction of the Honda 0 Series, the Japanese carmaker also unveiled the new H mark logo that will be used exclusively for its next-generation EV models.

Honda created a new H mark to represent the momentous transformation that the brand goes through in launching the next generation of EVs. The new design expression, which resembles two outstretched hands, stands for the company's commitment to advancing mobility and satisfying customer demands.

The Honda 0 Series will also use a new design philosophy called “The Art of Resonance” which connects the users, nature, and the society. This includes the use of eco-friendly materials and innovative design to evoke emotion.

Models in the series will also come with the Honda Sensing Elite suite of advanced driver-assistive systems, and in the second half of the 2020s, they will also get the next generation of autonomous driving features.

Honda is developing a next-generation autonomous driving system based on its “human-centric” safety concept. It will incorporate cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI), sensing, recognition, and driver monitoring technologies to produce risk predictions that are more natural, human-like, and accurate. With this system, more hands-off features will be available for use on expressways and surface streets.

The automaker is also developing an original operating system for the Honda 0 Series. The cars will make use of AI and driver data to understand the user's preferences, driving habits, and behaviors. This will allow the vehicle to make improvements to the ownership experience.

Customers can also expect enhanced aerodynamics performance and a new level of battery efficiency on the Honda 0 Series models.
