KEY TAKEAWAYS
Why did HCPI issue a voluntary recall of 2016-2019 Honda Pilot units?
Findings show that under certain driving conditions, the vehicle's hood latch may encounter higher than expected load due to an improper hood to grill gap configuration at the time of vehicle production -- causing it to possibly open. Will the replacement of the panel comp hood be free of charge?
Yes, this service will be provided at no cost to Honda Pilot owners. How long will the service take?
It will take 30 minutes if hood reinforcement is needed. If the assessment calls for a replacement, two days will be needed to finish the painting.Findings show that under certain driving conditions, the hood latch may encounter higher than expected load due to an improper hood to grill gap configuration at the time of vehicle production. Strong air pressure produced through this gap may cause the hood to shake, which can possibly crack and dislodge the area surrounding the hood latch striker. This poses a risk of the hood to open while driving and thereby increase the risk of a crash.
While no crashes or injuries have been reported in the country as a result of this, HCPI will proceed with the reinforcement or replacement of the panel comp hood. This service will be provided at no cost to Honda Pilot owners and will take 30 minutes if hood reinforcement is needed. If the assessment calls for a replacement, two days will be needed to finish the painting.
