Based on the sixth-generation CR-V, the aforementioned model features a plug-in charging function that lets customers juice up an onboard battery using an external power source.
It is expected to offer a range of more than 600 kilometers (km) on a full tank of hydrogen and its additional battery-powered range, more than 60km based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).
The fuel cell system that can be found in the CR-V e:FCEV was co-developed by Honda and General Motors and produced by their joint venture company, Fuel Cell System Manufacturing, LLC in Michigan.
Per the Japanese automaker, the vehicle will be produced at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio and exported to Japan after. Sales of the SUV’s new energy-vehicle version in North America will soon follow and is scheduled to begin before the end of the year.
It was in September last year when Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated brought in the sixth-generation CR-V, which comes with a full-hybrid option.
The creation of the Honda CR-V e:FCEV is part of the brand’s efforts to realize carbon neutrality for all of the products and corporate activities by 2050 and “zero environmental impact” throughout the entire product lifecycle including the product and all corporate activities.
Honda was the first to receive certification from both the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) with FCX in 2002.
