Honda S2000 to make comeback as MX-5 rival
MANILA: Honda Motors is set to bring its S2000 model with much simpler and stripped-rear version in order to challenge the Mazda MX-5. The new Honda S2000 might be a alternative to the MX-5. Honda is likely to revise the engine as mid-size rear-drive convertible and it will be powered by a 1.5-litre hybrid 220kw engine. It will be a investment car from the Japanese brand.
The front mounted engine inside the S2000 is likely to rival MX-5 as well as Fiat 124 Spider. The petro-electric powertrain will takeover the 1.5-litre 110kw turbo-petrol engine which is available across the domestic market in Japan. The new powertrain is inspired from the latest Civic Type-R. The modest S2000 is likely to churn out 25bhp more power than the MX-5. However, the engine will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox across the trim.
Honda Motors is dedicated to come up with next generation cars based on global architecture, keeping it cost effective and limit the rear-wheel drive chassis. Honda's global head, Takahiro Hachigo revealed that the sports car will be available with hybrid engine and it doesn't depends on the car type.
