Honda To Unleash New Drivetrain Tech
MANILA: Honda Motor Co. is set to unleash a new profile of powertrain technologies that aim to perform and boost the fuel economy with its innovation. The company is prepared to introduce a new-generation plug-in hybrid powertrain and 10-speed automatic transmission that will enhance the driving experience and boost the combustion cycle along with ultrahigh thermal efficiency.
The company also aims to develop the sedan powered by hydrogen fuel. The Honda engineers are engaged in bringing a new class of powertrain that will power the future cars and will be also based on a Pikes Peak-climbing prototype. In the next five years, Honda will focus on development of some prototypes and roll it out of the manufacturing hub.
Ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda unveiled the innovative technologies at its global R&D center located in eastern Japan. Honda’s chief officer for technology strategy, Keiji Ohtsu says, “We’ve added a new lineup to expand our formation.”
Honda is looking forward in the development of new naturally aspirated, direct-injection engines including continuously variable transmissions. Honda is powering the production lineup with turbocharged engines coupled with dual-clutch transmission. Finally, Honda is introducing first of its kind engines based on an AWD EV layout that produces high-torque acceleration and torque-vectoring in order to attain great handling.
