Hyundai, Kia continue winning streak at World Car Awards

MANILA: Hyundai Motor Group has won three honors at the recently held World Car Awards with the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

According to the South Korean automotive titan, the Kia EV9 was hailed as the 2024 World Car of the Year while also winning the 2024 World Electric Vehicle award.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, on the other hand, won the 2024 World Performance Car accolade.

“We are hugely honored that the 2024 EV9 has been named the World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle,” Kia President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ho Sung Song noted.

“This triumph is a testament to our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and design excellence. The Kia EV9’s continued success will drive us to keep delivering exceptional vehicles that redefine the driving experience for customers around the world,” he added.

Per Hyundai Motor Group, these 2024 victories underscore the conglomerate’s success at the World Car Awards in recent years.

In 2022 and 2023, both the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 took titles in the World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year categories.

Last year, the Kia EV6 GT was also named World Performance Car, and in 2020 the Kia Telluride won the overall World Car of the Year title while the Kia Soul EV was crowned World Urban Car.

“We are thrilled and honored to receive the prestigious World Performance Car award for our Ioniq 5 N,” Hyundai President and CEO Jaehoon Chang said.

“This recognition is a testament to Hyundai’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric performance and innovation. It is truly gratifying to see our efforts rewarded with a total of seven World Car Awards titles in the last three years. We are proud to continue our winning streak and solidify Hyundai’s position as a leader in the global EV (electric vehicle) industry,” he added.

Locally, Hyundai continues to make waves in the country.

Just recently, the local wing of Hyundai launched the latest iteration of the Santa Fe sport utility vehicle. It is packed with modern features that appeal to this generation of car buyers.

Not too long ago, it rolled out the Hyundai Custin and Stargazer, allowing the company to expand its reach in various segments in the Philippine automotive industry.

This week, Hyundai Motor Philippines will unleash its motorsport-bred sub-brand at the upcoming 2024 Manila International Auto Show.
