Hyundai Veloster “Grappler” Concept is ready for the dirt road
MANILA: Remember Jef Palma, the Pinoy who tricked out his Honda Jazz for off-roading around the US? Well, Hyundai just took a page from his book and decided to make their Hyundai Veloster off-road worthy with their “Grappler” concept set to debut at the 2019 SEMA aftermarket show this coming November in Las Vegas, Nevada.
To make the Veloster hatchback worthy of the dirt road, engineers from Hyundai first have to increase the ground clearance and approach and departure angles of the car. They then added a bespoke front and rear brush guards to ensure the Veloster Grappler is protected whenever the terrain turns unpredictable. Aggressive oversized all-terrain tires are mounted on rally-themed Method Racing wheels for functional capability. The setup is complemented by wider fenders and a modified front and rear fascia.
For extra loading space, Hyundai added a roof-mounted Thule utility basket that also serves as a base mount for the removable solar panel from Goal Zero to power an all-electric portable power station mounted inside the cabin for remote journeys. A roof-mounted lighting system from Baja Designs allows for visibility even on inclement weather. The Borla Catback exhaust and Seibon carbon-fiber hood round out the exterior modification.
The off-road theme continuous inside the Hyundai Veloster Grappler. The interior of this hatchback is equipped with an integrated roll bar for mounting a spare wheel and tire mount. It also serves to protect passengers that seat comfortably in custom-made premium Recaro seats in vintage houndstooth check design. Further outfitting the interior are traction mats,
an oversized utility shovel, a Goal Zero mobile power station and crush lights, roadside assistance kit, first aid kit, Napier outdoor dome tent, and Scosche Mounts. Exterior lighting is modulated through a custom-designed switch panel. Hyundai's accessories—sport shifter, sports pedals, all-weather floor mats, and ambient lighting system, and cargo blocks round out the functionality of Grappler.
The Hyundai Veloster Grappler is indeed packed with equipment and features to truly make it off-road worthy to conquer any kind of terrain.
