Hyundai Veloster Turbo: Features explained

Hyundai Veloster Turbo: Features explained

The Hyundai Veloster has always been a fantastic car ever since it was launched. Earlier this year, Hyundai unveiled the 2018 Veloster for the Philippines market at the Manila International Auto Show. The new car looks so much better and aggressive than the previous model. Hyundai has added a few new features to lure in as many customers as possible. In this story, we are going to throw some light upon some of the interesting features of the 2018 Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo

New front grille

The all-new Veloster Turbo has been given a makeover that makes it looks more aggressive than ever. To do so, Hyundai has replaced the old boring and well-behaved front grille that we’ve seen in the previous model with a new blacked-out and sportier grille. We really like the overall design and shape of this. It really enhances the appeal of the car.

Updated headlamps

Hyundai also needed to tweak the design of the headlamps a bit to make the new Veloster gain that mean and aggressive look. So, the new set of headlamps are sleeker. They tend to be trying to reach the front grille by stretching themselves. Hyundai has also added two separate strips of LED daytime running lights in the lower portion of the headlamps for that extra attention. However, they don’t look that great. We speculate that if instead of separate units Hyundai had made them a continuous stream of light then that would have looked much better.

Updated front bumper

It must be clear by now that Hyundai wanted the 2018 Veloster Turbo to be a sporty 5-door hatchback. The updated design and styling clearly tells us that. The front bumper looks really sporty. Hyundai has carved out an air curtain on either side of the front bumper. This isn’t just a gimmicky feature; it serves a real purpose. Another interesting feature that we see here is two red lines located at the bottom portion of the front bumper. These are specific for the Turbo variant and they are painted in red irrespective of the color of the car. It is pretty cool.

New alloy wheels

We have to say, the new alloy wheels on the 2018 Veloster Turbo are very attractive. They are something that we don’t see that often and Hyundai has the guts to put such wheels on a production car as the design of these wheels is something that you would either love or hate. To be on a safer side, Hyundai has also provided another design for the alloy wheels that is more conventional.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo engine

1.6-litre turbocharged engine

Looking at the 2018 Hyundai Veloster Turbo specs, we found out that under the hood of this sporty machine is a powerful 1.6-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It has been tuned in a state to churn out a max power of 204 PS at 6000 revs. The peak torque generated by this mill is 264 Nm and all of them kicks in at 1500 to 4500 revs. So, the lower and mid rev range of this car should be very strong. It should be a fun car to drive.

Updated interior

The interior of the all-new Veloster Turbo is very sporty thanks to the all-black theme. You’ll notice a touch of red at a few parts like the steering wheel spoke, gear lever, centre console, etc. This adds to the sporty character of the car. The dashboard layout is very neat and tidy, and we really dig the flag that can be seen on the passenger side dashboard. Hyundai has updated the touchscreen system as well. The new model gets a larger system which sits vertically at the centre of the dashboard. It looks pretty decent and is well within the driver’s reach. It is easy to use and we are expecting Hyundai to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.

These were some of the interesting features of the 2018 Hyundai Veloster Turbo. It has been months since it debuted at the Manila International Auto Show but it is still not launched in the country. It is being speculated that Hyundai might be planning to launch it sometime during December 2018. The 2018 Veloster price is expected to be somewhere around Php 1.13 million and the car would be available in four colours - Yellow, Red, Orange, and Blue.
