Importance of e-vehicles tackled in webinar by Globe, LCC
MANILA: The Liveable Cities Challenge (LCC) and Dassault Systemes teamed up with the League of Cities of the Philippines and Globe Telecom to host a webinar that provided insight and knowledge for designing better solutions for communities.
LCC Lab’s eighth webinar this year entitled “Mobility: Building an E-vehicle Ecosystem” tackled the potential and benefits of electric vehicles as an alternative mode of transport in cities.
E-vehicles are worthy alternative to traditional modes of transportation as the need for more environment-friendly solutions is given the utmost priority due to climate change. The webinar aimed to boost the ecosystem for e-vehicles in the Philippines and provide a solution on how to overcome the challenges in policies or legislation, infrastructures, and perceptions. The discussion also presented the potential types of vehicles that can be practical and accessible for Filipino commuters.
In a statement, LCC Philippines Chairman and Philippines Disaster Resilience Foundation Chief Resilience Officer Bill Luz said, “There are obvious benefits such as less dependence on oil products, better air quality in cities, and the ability to be powered by renewable energy but there are plenty of challenges as well like charging infrastructure, battery exchanges, local policies, and cost.”
The panel of speakers included AC Industrials and Integrated Microelectronics Inc. Chief Executive Officer Art Tan, Global Electric Transport Chief Executive Officer Freddie Tinga, Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines Executive Director Manny Biona, Dassault Systems Business Consultant of Transportation and Mobility Industry Alan Pilz, and DTI Board of Investments Industry Development Services Executive Director Ma. Corazon Halili-Dichosa.
The 2021 Liveable Cities Labs webinar is part of Globe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG), specifically UN SDG No. 9 and No.11, which highlight the roles of infrastructure and innovation as major drivers of economic development, as well as the importance of creating sustainable communities.
