Indonesian Market Gets Suzuki XL7 Hybrid. Will PH Get It Soon?
MANILA: Suzuki has expanded its lineup of mild hybrid vehicles with even another type. Suzuki Indonesia has launched the XL7 Hybrid, a follow-up to the Ertiga Hybrid that is probably going to be distributed throughout Southeast Asia. But the XL7 facelift for 2023 also receives some interior and exterior changes in addition to the adoption of mild hybrid power.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What powers the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid?
The hardware for the mild hybrid XL7 is the same as that for the Ertiga, hence the specifications are the same. A 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque powers the XL7 Hybrid. It is then connected to an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a 12V lithium-ion battery. What could be the fuel consumption of the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid?
The fuel consumption of the XL7 Hybrid could also match that of the Ertiga. As reported by the Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP), the Suzuki Hybrid Ertiga gives an impressive 12.54 km/L on city driving, which is 7.6% more than the Suzuki Ertiga with regular engine. The modest electrification of this model is the main point of interest here. The mild hybrid XL7 cannot function only on battery power. The car's stop-start mechanism is primarily responsible for the fuel savings.
The Suzuki XL7 Hybrid appears to have a different transmission than the XL6 Hybrid for the Indian market. The version launched in Indonesia still uses a traditional four-speed self-shifter in place of a six-speed automatic transmission. There is also a five-speed manual available. It is also important to note that the ASEAN model still uses the K15B engine rather than the K15C block that is offered in India.
Other changes include a new grille style with a black chrome surround on the 2023 Suzuki XL7. The wheel designs and smoked tail lights at the back are both new. The 'E-mirror' technology, which transforms the rearview mirror into a camera, cruise control, and black wood dashboard trims are further features.
There is a significant likelihood that this moderate hybrid MPV-crossover will enter the Philippine market after being marketed in Indonesia. If true, the XL7 will have an electrified drivetrain, making it unique in its class.

The Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is compliant with EVIDA's implementing rules and regulations, therefore, future owners will enjoy benefits such as 15% off on vehicle registration, priority lanes for vehicle and franchise registration, and exemption on number coding. The XL7 will likely benefit from this, as well.
