Introduction of Honda Sensing-equipped City Hatchback spurred by brand’s global safety goal
Refreshed models' safety features include collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, among others
MANILA: Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) confirmed that the move to introduce the Honda Sensing-equipped City Hatchback was spurred by the brand’s global goal to achieve zero traffic fatalities by 2050.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
By what year does Honda plan to achieve zero traffic-related fatalities?
Honda aims to achieve zero traffic-related fatalities by 2050.Which is the only model in HCPI's lineup to not have Honda Sensing?
The only model in HCPI's lineup to lack the Honda Sensing technology is the Brio.In an interview, HCPI Sales Division General Manager Aizza Te Tan-Flores told Zigwheels Philippines that the local wing of the Japanese carmaker is slowly equipping all members of its lineup with Honda Sensing.
“Given our Honda global direction… we are gradually equipping our models with Honda Sensing. To align with that global direction in the Philippines, we are almost complete with our lineup,” Te Tan-Flores noted.
The Honda City Hatchback’s bolstered safety features include the following:
- Collision mitigation braking system: helps warn, mitigate a collision, or lessen the severity of a frontal collision.
- Lead car departure notification: keeps drivers informed by alerting them when the car in front has moved ahead of a standstill.
- Adaptive cruise control: lessens fatigue by maintaining the distance based on the car in front, braking and accelerating as needed.
- Auto high beam: automatically turns on headlights in dark environments and automatically adjusts it for oncoming traffic.
- Lane keeping assist: keeps the vehicle at the center of visible road lanes and in the best driving position and guides drivers in following the flow of the road.
- Road departure mitigation: provides audible and visual warnings for lane swerving without signaling.
- Lane departure warning: alerts drivers when veering off course to help prevent collisions.
Now that the Honda City Hatchback has been slapped with Honda Sensing, the Brio is the only model in the company’s roster to lack the marque’s suite of safety technologies.
“We have almost all, except the Brio,” Te Tan-Flores stated.
When asked if there is a chance that the Honda Brio will soon receive the Honda Sensing treatment, HCPI’s sales boss explained that the brand is still studying on such possibility.
“We have to balance the market needs as well as our global direction but of course, this is heavily considered because our target is to have 100-percent Honda Sensing in our lineup,” she added.
