MANILA: A new retro-styled SUV has been unveiled by Chery, or rather, it has been introduced under its new Jetour brand. It is known as the Traveller and is the most recent SUV to join Chery's lineup as well as another product under the fast growing Jetour brand. The Jetour Traveller has an eye-catching look.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the notable styling elements of the Jetour Traveller?

The SUV has a wider-looking posture thanks to its unpainted cladding and box-flared wheel arches. Nonetheless, the grille and headlights, which are blacked off, give it a slight similarity to the Ford Bronco. When it comes to the rest of its body, it resembles the new Land Rover Defender.
  • What are the specs of the Jetour Traveller?

Three turbo-petrol engines and two plug-in hybrid alternatives are available for the Traveller. Later this month, the Jetour Traveller's complete specifications will be made public.
  • Three turbo-petrol engines and two plug-in hybrid alternatives are available for the Traveller. The mid-spec variant has a 1.6-liter turbo while the base model utilizes a 1.5-liter turbo. A 2.0-liter engine with higher boost is also offered for those looking for a little more power. For both the turbo petrol and PHEV models, Jetour has not yet disclosed horsepower and torque ratings.

With the Traveller, Jetour will provide two different wheelbase options. Five people may fit in the normal wheelbase vehicle, but seven people can fit in the extended version thanks to the addition of a second row of seats. A three-door model is not present, at least not yet.

The Jetour Traveller's exterior styling takes design inspirations from vintage 4x4s. Like earlier SUVs, it is upright and boxy. The SUV has a wider-looking posture thanks to its unpainted cladding and box-flared wheel arches. Nonetheless, the grille and headlights, which are blacked off, give it a slight similarity to the Ford Bronco. When it comes to the rest of its body, it resembles the new Land Rover Defender more, especially when the black trim and taillight assembly at the back are seen.

Other retro-inspired elements can be seen inside as well. The dashboard of the Traveller is flat with vertical air vents in each corner. With little decoration and lots of small storage compartments, its door panels likewise pay homage to vintage SUVs. Of course, it has a digital instrument panel, and most of its interior features are located on a huge touchscreen. Moreover, the quartic steering wheel is a peculiar design element.
