JMS 2023: Mazda Iconic SP compact sports car concept makes global debut

MANILA: Mazda Motor Corporation revealed the Iconic SP compact sports car concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2023.

The Mazda Iconic SP is a new breed of compact sports car concept that caters to those looking for a car that is “genuinely fun” to drive. It utilizes the two-rotor Rotary-EV system developed by Mazda, which allows for layout versatility. It is designed with a low center of gravity and can operate on virtually carbon-neutral fuel when the onboard battery is charged with electricity from renewable sources.

This compact sports car has an overall length of 4,180 millimeters (mm), an overall width of 1,850 mm, and an overall height of 1,150 mm. It weighs 1,450 kilograms.

With its low center of gravity, 50:50 weight distribution, and the two-rotor Rotary-EV system’s high output of 364 horsepower, the Mazda Iconic SP can provide exceptional maneuverability. Even if it is a sports car, it can be used for outdoor activities and can supply power during emergencies.

Mazda’s desire to “cherish the color red” and “expand the circle of people who live positively today” is embodied by the vivid red exterior paint called Viola Red.

Together with like-minded companies, we want to create a future where many people, including fans, can say, ‘I love cars.’ With this strong will, Mazda will continue to expand the circle of people who live positively today,” Mazda Motor Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Masahiro Moro stated.

The Mazda Iconic SP is displayed at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 at Tokyo Big Sight until November 5.
